The SFHA the Oldest Authority in California, Saves the Equivalent of 3,300 Tons of CO2 Per Year

The City of San Francisco faced aging public-housing infrastructure and rising energy and water costs across 5,200 units. To reinvest operational savings into capital upgrades and qualify for ARRA funding, the City partnered with Ameresco using an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) and a suite of energy efficiency and renewable energy services.

Ameresco performed a comprehensive energy audit and implemented measures including efficient windows, heating-system replacement, water and lighting upgrades, cogeneration, an energy management system, and ventilation improvements. The combined HUD and ARRA-backed program totaled $41 million and delivered roughly $3.5 million in annual energy savings, avoided the equivalent of 3,300 tons of CO2 per year, upgraded electrical/mechanical/water systems, and created over 100 local jobs with 25% resident job participation.
