Solar Farm Delivers Renewable Energy to Reduce Costs and Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The Town of Sudbury partnered with Ameresco to turn a closed, capped landfill into a productive renewable energy asset to help manage rising energy costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Ameresco delivered a solar photovoltaic solution under a 20‑year Power Purchase Agreement, addressing Sudbury’s need for cost-effective, sustainable municipal energy.

Ameresco designed, built and now operates a 1.5 MW solar farm (6,000 250‑watt modules) on the landfill—starting construction within six months of PPA approval—and provides ongoing operations and maintenance. The system produces about 1.9 million kWh annually, cuts roughly 1,310 metric tons of CO2 per year, and delivers long‑term energy cost savings for the Town of Sudbury.
