San Joaquin County Generates 10,473,000 kWh from Solar Power

San Joaquin County California partnered with Ameresco to expand renewable energy at the Foothill Landfill. The County needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, supplement existing electricity generation, lower utility costs, and put undeveloped landfill land to productive use.

Ameresco developed, owns, and operates a 5.3 MW ground‑mount solar photovoltaic system (13,770 modules, 29 inverters) funded by a power purchase agreement and previously built a 4.3 MW landfill gas‑to‑energy plant at the same site. Together the systems are expected to produce about 10,473,000 kWh in year one, reduce roughly 7,405 tons of CO2 (equivalent to 854 homes’ annual energy use), and provide a $500,000 upfront lease payment to the County — delivering clear environmental and financial benefits under Ameresco’s ownership and operation.
