The City of Gatesville engaged Ameresco to address aging water infrastructure and improve billing transparency and operational efficiency by implementing an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solution. Gatesville’s challenge was to replace outdated meters and reduce lost or unaccounted-for water while enabling residents to monitor usage and control costs.

Ameresco replaced over 3,600 water meters, migrated meter software to a hosted cloud-based AMI platform, and delivered a customer portal for secure remote access to consumption data. Ameresco’s solution is projected to yield about $860,000 in meter-reading cost savings and capture roughly $1,500,000 in previously lost or unaccounted-for water and sewer revenues over the 15-year projection, while modernizing the city’s metering system in a budget‑neutral manner.
