A Ameresco Case Study
The Town of Mattapoisett and Wareham engaged Ameresco (in partnership with BlueWave Solar) to deliver community solar photovoltaic capacity that would provide low-cost renewable power to five local housing authorities—Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Kingston, and Plymouth. The towns sought a scalable, cost-saving energy solution to lower electricity costs for public housing and reduce their carbon footprint.
Ameresco designed, built, commissioned, and now operates a 6.0 MW community solar farm in Mattapoisett and a 10.2 MW farm across four Wareham sites (total 16.2 MW, 47,000+ modules), producing about 21.87 million kWh annually. Under Ameresco’s 20-year agreements the housing authorities receive lower-rate power and annual payments, generating millions in expected electricity savings and cutting roughly 16,276 metric tons of CO2 per year (equivalent to removing ~3,485 cars from the road).
