A Ameresco Case Study

Preview of the Manchester City Council Case Study

Manchester City Council Saves 3,482,133 kWh of Energy Annually, Equivalent to 1,416 Tonnes of CO2

Manchester City Council partnered with Ameresco to tackle its goal of reaching net-zero carbon by 2038 across an estate of 189,298 m² at 11 sites. Facing the need for substantial reductions in energy use and increased on-site renewables, the Council engaged Ameresco through the Re:fit framework for energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades, including LED lighting and controls, BMS optimisation, boiler and heating upgrades, CHP and solar PV installations.

Ameresco delivered investment-grade audits and a package of energy conservation measures plus 2.6 MW of roof-mounted solar PV and a 125 kW CHP unit, together with VSD optimisation, transformer and pipework upgrades, and insulation. The project (capital investment £6,095,924) saves 3,482,133 kWh annually, cuts 1,416 tonnes of CO2 per year and reduces energy costs by £694,020 annually, while improving building resilience and supporting community initiatives.
