A Ameresco Case Study
West Texas A&M University partnered with Ameresco to tackle its largest utility consumption reduction and modernization effort to date. The university needed an energy service company to evaluate and implement near- and long-term energy and water conservation measures aligned with its Campus Master Plan; Ameresco provided an Energy Savings Performance Contract and a comprehensive Investment Grade Audit to define a budget-neutral Campus Energy Reduction and Modernization Project.
Ameresco implemented 28 measures—including comprehensive LED retrofits, arena lighting upgrades, building automation and submetering, central plant optimization, replacement of two 30,000 lb/hr water-tube boilers, bipolar ionization, and high-efficiency water fixtures—across 2.3 million sq ft. The $14.4M project yields $1.1M in annual energy and water savings, cuts CO2 emissions by 9,489 metric tons per year (equivalent to removing 2,050 vehicles), addresses deferred maintenance, enhances reliability and the learning environment, and is self-funded with guaranteed utility savings within 18 years.
