A Ameresco Case Study
Kenyon College engaged Ameresco under an Energy Savings Performance Contract and a campus-wide Energy Awareness Program to reduce utility consumption across its 1,237,492 sq ft, 50-building campus while preserving the college’s historic aesthetics and community character. The challenge was to improve aging infrastructure and lower energy use without disrupting the look and function of century-old and contemporary facilities.
Ameresco delivered a comprehensive ESPC—LED lighting retrofits, high‑efficiency boilers, wireless HVAC controls, a campus-wide building automation upgrade, decentralized steam plant enabling summer shutdowns, new sub‑metering, water conservation measures, and the Kenyon KEY dashboard, mobile app and kiosks for behavior-based education. The $7,440,635 project produced $598,835 in annual energy savings and cut 10,785 metric tons of CO2 per year (equivalent to 2,300 acres of trees, 2,115 cars removed, or powering 935 households), while giving Kenyon continuous monitoring and long‑term energy management.
