A Ameresco Case Study
Newport News Public Schools faced critically deteriorated HVAC systems and rising energy costs across 50 buildings (4.3M sq ft), so the district engaged Ameresco through a performance-based energy services contract to fund and deliver district-wide infrastructure and efficiency upgrades.
Ameresco executed a three‑phase program—HVAC replacement and renovation, LED lighting and controls, building envelope and water‑conservation measures, energy management systems, an 85‑mile fiber‑optic installation for distance learning, chillers, on‑demand hot water and bi‑polar ionization—resulting in an annual electricity reduction of 5,855,550 kWh, annual energy cost savings of about $1,048,000 (phase 3), reductions of 197,355 ccf natural gas and 1,677 gal oil, 14,142 Kgal water/sewer savings, and roughly 4,500 metric tons of CO2 offset, with NNPS earning Energy Star designations.
