A Ameresco Case Study
The City of National City sought to modernize aging municipal infrastructure across 12 city facilities and 2 parks (215,000 sq ft) to reduce energy and water costs and cut maintenance burdens. The City partnered with Ameresco on an energy and water conservation program, beginning with an Ameresco energy audit and targeting measures such as solar PV, LED lighting conversions, HVAC replacements and controls, and irrigation and domestic water conservation.
Ameresco delivered a turnkey performance contract—installing roughly 277 kW (DC) of solar across six sites, converting interior and exterior lighting to LED, upgrading HVAC controls, and implementing water-efficiency measures—under a $5.4M project. Those upgrades are saving about 675,000 kWh annually, lowering utility and O&M costs, extending equipment life, and helping the City of National City meet its sustainability goals.
