A Ameresco Case Study
Frontenac Community Mental Health Services engaged Ameresco to support its first new housing development in 35 years — a 43‑suite, 3,300 m² multi‑unit facility in Kingston — with the challenge of delivering affordable, modern supportive housing while minimizing energy use and operating costs. Ameresco provided energy efficiency and renewable energy services, using solutions such as geothermal and solar systems as part of the project scope.
Ameresco installed a geothermal heating and cooling heat‑pump system with hybrid suite heat pumps, energy recovery ventilation, and solar domestic hot water, along with other efficiency measures for the $6.6M project (phase one completed Jan 2011). These measures enabled the facility to operate at about 60% of the energy consumption of a comparable building, reducing operating costs and improving sustainability for Frontenac Community Mental Health Services.
