Facility Upgrades Reduce Costs and Co2 Emissions While Enhancing Resiliency

Royal Marsden Hospital London needed to reduce carbon emissions, cut operating costs and backlog maintenance, and increase site resiliency while meeting NHS carbon targets. They engaged Ameresco to deliver energy efficiency and renewable solutions, centered on a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) installation alongside building management and hot‑water network upgrades.

Ameresco designed and installed a 1,000 kWe CHP (with catalytic reactor), a bespoke interlock/control system to export power, a 28 m flue, and ~1 km of stainless‑steel pipework, and de‑steamed the site during the COVID lockdown. The £3.5 million project enabled Ameresco to meet 65% of peak heating load, cut CO2 by 420 tonnes per year, deliver ~£710k in total savings (including £52k/yr maintenance savings), and improve energy performance and resiliency.
