Enhancing Resiliency & Readiness to Provide Continuous Power in Support of Training Mission at Fort Bragg

U.S. Army Fort Bragg needed to enhance energy resiliency and ensure continuous power for mission‑critical operations across the world’s largest military installation. Ameresco was awarded a $36 million UESC design‑build contract (in partnership with Duke Energy) to deliver onsite generation, storage and facility efficiency upgrades—including floating solar PV, battery energy storage, HVAC, boiler and lighting improvements—to support training and readiness without compromising land use.

Ameresco installed a 1.1 MW floating solar PV system on Big Muddy Lake and a 2 MW / 2 MWh battery energy storage system, plus water‑conservation and building system modernizations, to supplement the grid and provide seamless backup during outages. The solution is projected to save over $2 million in first‑year utility costs, reduce site energy use by 7% and water use by 20%, and materially increase Fort Bragg’s energy security and operational readiness.
