Energy Efficient Upgrades Elevate Lighting Quality and Provide Tax-Payer Savings

Hamilton County engaged Ameresco to upgrade Great American Ballpark to improve field lighting quality and the fan experience while delivering budget‑neutral operational savings. The County’s challenge was to elevate lighting to MLB and broadcast standards and reduce operating costs through an Energy Savings Performance Contract and targeted energy‑efficiency measures.

Ameresco implemented an $11.1 million scope of work—including 12,898 LED fixtures with controls, interior/exterior lighting upgrades, chiller and HVAC improvements, water conservation, and AssetPlannerTM with 48 submeters—and tracked performance through measurement and verification. The upgrades improved field visibility and system reliability, avoided costly cooling‑plant investments, and generated more than $434,000 in annual tax‑payer relief.
