A Ameresco Case Study
The Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) engaged Ameresco to address rising energy and water costs and aging building systems across its four campuses (1,100,000 sq ft). CCRI chose an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) to achieve guaranteed energy savings, improve sustainability, and renew campus infrastructure without upfront capital expenditure.
Ameresco implemented a multi‑phase ESPC including lighting upgrades, boiler plant and cooling tower replacements, demand‑controlled ventilation, and electric heat conversion as part of a $14.8 million project over a 15‑year term. The work is delivering guaranteed annual energy savings of $1,200,000+, $500,000 in utility rebates, budget‑neutral financing with no initial capital costs, approximately $1.4 million total net cash flow over the term, and an annual CO2 reduction of 4,941 metric tons.
