City of Wichita Falls Installs 5,500 LED Street Lights and 33,389 Water Meters

The City of Wichita Falls partnered with Ameresco to modernize aging water and lighting infrastructure, address meter accessibility and billing inaccuracies, and reduce rising O&M and electricity costs. Ameresco deployed advanced metering and energy-efficiency services including a fixed-based AMI system, smart water meter replacements, and LED street lighting upgrades to help the city become more efficient and “smart city” ready.

Ameresco installed a turnkey AMI system and replaced 33,389 water meters (reconstructing 130 additional meters) and roughly 5,500 street lights, delivering a $15,884,487 AMI/water project and a $2,895,637 LED lighting project. The work produced $1,473,670 in annual revenue and O&M savings for water, average annual energy and O&M savings of $296,225 for lighting, and cut the city’s street-lighting electrical budget from $1.1 million to $250,000 per year—while improving billing accuracy, remote data access, asset life, lighting quality, and providing guaranteed energy savings.
