A Ameresco Case Study

Preview of the City of Lowell Case Study

City of Lowell Now Saves the Equivalent of 6,158 tons of CO2 Per Year

The City of Lowell faced rising operational costs and aging infrastructure across 47 municipal buildings (2,864,730 sq ft) but had limited capital for upgrades. To tackle these challenges, the City partnered with Ameresco using an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC), Energy Management services and Power Purchase Agreements, including a 1.8 MW photovoltaic system.

Ameresco designed and installed more than 23 energy conservation measures, commissioned and now operates the systems, and implemented a web-based energy management platform. The project produced about $1.5 million ($1,522,629) in annual energy savings, saves the equivalent of 6,158 tons of CO2 per year, upgraded all 47 buildings, provided a 20‑year discounted electricity rate, and was delivered budget‑neutral with no upfront capital required.
