Children’s Hospital Boston Implements Energy Efficiency Measures and Saves $1,514,120 Annually

Boston Children’s Hospital engaged Ameresco to address rising energy and water costs and to modernize building systems across its campus. Facing the need to improve efficiency while maintaining patient care, the hospital partnered with Ameresco on a multi‑year, six‑phase program of intelligent energy services that included energy audits and design‑build upgrades.

Ameresco implemented new high‑efficiency building equipment, LED lighting with controls, plumbing and water‑conservation measures, and ventilation system and control upgrades across 15 buildings—completing work on time, on budget, and during normal hours. The project (valued at $5.6M) delivered 9.6 million kWh and 12 million gallons of water saved annually, $1,514,120 in annual energy cost savings, $98,000 in annual maintenance savings, and improved indoor air and light quality.
