Beckfoot Trust commitment to climate change and encouraging young people to be part of the discussion on local and global environmental issues

Beckfoot Trust, a Multi-Academy Trust of ten schools in Bradford, UK, sought to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs across a mixed estate of Victorian and modern buildings as part of its Environmental Strategy and UN SDG commitments. The Trust engaged Ameresco to deliver a package of energy efficiency and renewable measures, including LED lighting and controls, Building Management System upgrades, HVAC and boiler upgrades, building fabric improvements, Measurement & Verification and a 246 kW solar PV installation.

Ameresco delivered a £1.1 million Re:Fit programme across six schools, implementing BMS optimisation, equipment replacements, insulation, water‑saving measures and the solar PV system with ongoing M&V. The project is projected to save 1,322,643 kWh annually, reduce CO2 emissions by 282 tonnes per year, cut energy costs by about 25% (~£92K/year), and improve comfort and resilience across the Trust’s 26,258 m² estate.
