Arizona State University - Customer Case Study

Arizona State University set an ambitious goal to become climate neutral by 2025 across its 21.7 million square feet of facilities (four campuses, one research park, 438 buildings). To achieve this, ASU partnered with Ameresco on a multi-year, multi-phased program to upgrade infrastructure and reduce energy use, deploying technologies such as an 8 MW combined heat and power facility, solar photovoltaic and thermal systems, thermal energy storage, dashboard software, and wide-ranging energy-efficiency measures—all implemented without additional capital outlay.

Ameresco performed detailed facility and energy analyses, designed and managed construction of the upgrades, and implemented energy conservation measures and renewable systems. The results include annual savings of over $8 million, 98.5 million kWh of electricity and 1.4 million therms of natural gas saved, and a reduction of 77,247 metric tons of CO2 annually (about 23% of ASU’s carbon footprint), materially advancing ASU toward its climate-neutral target.
