Ameresco’s Streetlight Conversion Project With the Oregon Department of Transportation Reaches Completion

The Oregon Department of Transportation partnered with Ameresco to upgrade its outdated street and tunnel lighting infrastructure. The challenge was to reduce long-term maintenance costs and lower carbon emissions across its network in the Portland Metro region.

Ameresco implemented an energy savings performance contract to replace over 8,000 high-pressure sodium lights with energy-efficient LED fixtures. The $18.6 million project, completed in December 2021, resulted in 50% energy savings per fixture and an estimated reduction of 3,500 metric tons of carbon emissions annually. The new LED lighting provided by Ameresco also features a much longer lifespan, significantly reducing future maintenance needs.
