Ameresco to install smart meters across Montgomery County, Texas, to optimize water distribution system and help homeowners conserve

Woodlands Water, the central management agency for ten MUDs serving The Woodlands in Montgomery County, TX, needed to optimize its water distribution system, increase customer transparency, and help homeowners conserve water. After a competitive solicitation, Woodlands Water selected Ameresco to provide an automatic metering infrastructure (AMI) turnkey solution to modernize metering and billing visibility.

Ameresco will install more than 34,000 smart water meters across the service area over an 18‑month period and integrate consumption data into customers’ existing WaterSmart portals. The Ameresco solution delivers more frequent, detailed usage data that improves leak detection, enhances customer engagement and billing transparency, and helps avoid future infrastructure upgrades while enabling customers to reduce unnecessary water use.
