Ameresco Completes “brightfield” Solar Project on Former Brownfield Site in Illinois

The customer, Inovateus Solar, partnered with the vendor Ameresco on the challenge of developing a renewable energy project on a former General Motors plant brownfield site. This initiative supported Illinois' clean energy goals, which required a portion of solar installations to be built on such repurposed land.

Ameresco implemented a solution by developing and constructing a 2.62-megawatt "brightfield" solar installation consisting of over 6,600 modules. The completed project, which Ameresco helped build, is now expected to generate over 3.6 million kWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power approximately 350 homes. This results in an annual carbon dioxide offset of over 1,500 metric tons.
