Airport Implements Solar Power System to Generate Renewable Power Cutting Energy Budget

Logan International Airport engaged Ameresco to reduce its energy budget by deploying on-site renewable generation. Under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement, Ameresco installed a 370 kW solar PV system on Terminal A to deliver solar-generated electricity at a discount to the airport’s current utility rates.

Ameresco engineered a custom mounting solution, used U.S.-made components, and met Massport’s strict air-side safety and security requirements while completing the installation with a certified woman-owned electrical firm. The system produces about 430,000 kWh annually, reduces CO2 emissions by roughly 297 metric tons per year (about the equivalent carbon uptake of 243 acres of U.S. forest), and provides measurable cost savings to Logan International Airport through the 20-year PPA.
