A AMCS Fleet Maintenance Case Study
L.C. Transportation Services (LCT), a 350-tractor commercial truckload carrier, had purchased Dossier maintenance management software but never put it to use until Marshall Babbitt arrived as director of maintenance in 2004. Faced with rising parts costs, inconsistent warranty tracking, inefficient preventive maintenance and the scrutiny of self-insurance auditors, LCT needed a way to gain visibility into parts, vendor performance and fleet health.
Babbitt implemented Dossier to track purchases, vendor spend, warranties and maintenance history, then used that data to put the top 100 purchased items out to bid. The results: measurable cost reductions (a brake drum fell from $68 to $54), 51 of 100 key items returned lower prices after bidding, improved warranty recoveries and defect detection, stronger preventive maintenance with higher fleet utilization and a lower DOT safety score — all of which helped reduce LCT’s self-insurance set‑aside.
