Republic Services Inc., a leading domestic solid waste provider serving about 5.5 million customers across 21 states, operates a 5,500‑truck fleet and hundreds of maintenance facilities. After standardizing on AMCS Fleet Maintenance in 2001 to better track costs, the company discovered it was carrying roughly $2 million in excess and obsolete parts spread across locations.

By using AMCS’s Obsolete Parts report, barcode-enabled inventory tracking and corporate roll‑up reporting, Republic identified, traded, or returned unused parts and gave managers real‑time visibility into inventories. The effort cut parts inventory by about 22%—from $9 million to $7 million—saving roughly $2 million and improving fleet operations and cost control.
