Zapproved, a Portland-based SaaS company founded in 2008, builds the Z‑Discovery suite to help legal teams manage e-discovery and litigation response. As the business grew, Zapproved faced mounting challenges: it needed to process millions of documents per hour, maintain reliability and performance, handle 190 GB of log data per hour, and let customers deploy quickly without large upfront hardware investments.

Zapproved moved its full Z‑Discovery platform to AWS, using AWS Lambda for OCR and automation, Amazon Kinesis Firehose for log processing, Amazon API Gateway, EC2, S3, and IAM. The result: the platform now processes millions of documents hourly, reduced a 454‑page PDF OCR task from hours to 20 seconds, cut per-page processing costs from about $0.10 to a fraction of a penny, enables customer deployments in under a week, and easily absorbs traffic spikes to support rapid growth.
