A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Yulon Energy, founded by Taiwan automaker Yulon Motor in 2010, builds EV charging stations to support growing electric‑vehicle adoption—operating over 400 stations with more than 1,000 parking spaces as of 2018. Facing ambitious plans to scale into China (driven by regional EV incentives and policy shifts away from gasoline vehicles), Yulon needed a fast, low‑cost IT rollout for thousands of chargers and determined an on‑premises data center would be too slow and expensive.
Yulon chose AWS for its breadth of services in China, global footprint, low‑latency failover, and responsive local support, deploying EC2 for apps and databases, S3 and Glacier for storage, and AWS Managed Services for operations. The cloud implementation went live in two weeks instead of months, reduced required IT staff from five to two (about a 60% cost saving), and delivered scalable infrastructure and usage data to optimize station placement and capacity — insights that also benefit urban planners.
