A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Xilinx, a leading provider of programmable FPGAs, SoCs, MPSoCs, and 3D ICs, faced growing pressure as the number of test cases and supported OS platforms expanded. Relying on on-premises data-center resources for regression testing created bottlenecks and queue contention during peak release cycles, forcing engineers to wait for compute capacity and driving up costs by paying for idle infrastructure.
Xilinx migrated its automated regression-testing platform to an AWS HPC cluster using a mix of Amazon EC2 instance types (including F1), Auto Scaling, Amazon DynamoDB, and AWS storage services (S3, EBS, EFS). The move eliminated resource wait times, delivered 100% test-result predictability, reduced turnaround variability, and increased developer productivity while enabling horizontal and vertical scaling so the team can focus on building software rather than managing infrastructure.
