Waters Brings Customers to the AWS Cloud with Strong GxP Compliance

Waters Corporation, maker of laboratory instruments and the widely used Empower Chromatography Data Software, faced customer pressure to reduce IT capital and operational costs by moving to the cloud. Because Waters’ customers operate in tightly regulated life‑sciences environments, a disruptive SaaS model would have broken existing GxP validation, compliance, and training processes, so any cloud approach had to preserve regulatory controls.

Working with AWS Professional Services, Waters launched Empower Cloud as a deployment option that customers run in their own AWS accounts, using CloudFormation templates and services like EC2, EBS, S3, and Amazon WorkSpaces to preserve the identical Empower experience. The result: validated GxP systems in the cloud that deliver cost savings, greater agility and business continuity, simplified validation through templates, and easier adoption for organizations without large on‑premises IT footprints.
