A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Vocus Communications, an Australian telecommunications group operating brands such as Commander, Dodo and iPrimus, needed a faster way to use data analytics to win newly connected nbn customers and reduce churn. Its on‑premises IT — a patchwork from multiple acquisitions — lacked the processing and storage capacity and would have taken at least 12 months and significant capital to upgrade.
Working with AWS and APN partner Bryte Systems, Vocus built a cloud analytics platform using Amazon S3, EMR and Redshift (with Kinesis planned) and went from concept to production in three months—about a 75% reduction in deployment time. The platform removed on‑prem capacity constraints and capex barriers, enabled scalable ingestion (targeting ~10 TB/day), delivered customer insights that helped grow nbn market share to 7.7%, and put churn‑reduction models into production with further real‑time enhancements planned.
