VidRoll is a video technology and monetization platform that serves publishers, brands and agencies across 50,000 unique domains and 100,000 syndicated sites, delivering hundreds of millions of ads per month. As the business scaled, managing EC2 clusters for real‑time bidding, transcoding and MySQL databases—despite using Elastic Beanstalk—created operational overhead that pulled developers away from product innovation and made rapid scaling difficult.

VidRoll migrated its real‑time bidding and transcoding logic to AWS Lambda (triggered via API Gateway and integrated with Kinesis, DynamoDB, SNS and other AWS services), removing infrastructure management and enabling NoOps. The move improved code reusability and developer productivity—allowing 2–3 engineers to do work that previously required 8–10—helping VidRoll grow revenue 10x without adding technical headcount and pass cost savings to customers.
