Videology - Customer Case Study

Videology, a provider of software for converged TV and video advertising, needed a more scalable and cost-effective way to run its Hadoop cluster on Amazon Web Services. The company was processing 15 TB of data per day, but its Amazon EC2 instance storage was limiting memory optimization, causing disk-throughput bottlenecks, and forcing it to add new instances whenever it needed more storage.

To solve this, Videology moved to Amazon Web Services using Amazon EC2 M4 instances with Amazon EBS st1 volumes, along with Amazon S3 for staging data. This decoupled storage from compute, improved disk throughput, and let the team right-size the cluster. As a result, Amazon Web Services helped Videology save $15,000 per month, increase available storage by 5%, turn off eight server nodes, and cut S3 copy time from 40 minutes to under seven minutes.
