University of Western Australia - Customer Case Study

The Centre for Software Practice (CSP) at the University of Western Australia, a research and teaching group focused on software engineering, built Class2Go in 2012 to deliver MOOCs and practical online assessments. CSP needed a low‑cost, scalable infrastructure to stream video, run quizzes and code grading, and support interactive courses for thousands of students on a limited budget.

CSP deployed Class2Go on AWS using EC2, S3, RDS, SQS, SES and Elastic Load Balancing, standing up the environment in a single afternoon and using dedicated instances for grading and mail. The result was rapid, reliable delivery at a fraction of previous costs (about $200 the first month and ~$1,500/month vs. $300,000 and months of setup for an earlier platform), easy scaling to tens or hundreds of thousands of students, and simplified daily operations.
