University of Newcastle Digitises Its Student and Researcher Experience on AWS

The University of Newcastle faced a tight 9-month deadline to migrate 139 applications before a scheduled data centre demolition, while also modernising a complex legacy IT environment with limited documentation. Working with Amazon Web Services, along with partners Deloitte and CSA, the university used AWS services including Amazon GuardDuty and Amazon CloudWatch to support the move to the cloud.

Amazon Web Services helped the University of Newcastle complete the migration on time and redesign its infrastructure for greater agility and resilience. The project delivered 95% application transformation, with 72% replatformed and 23% refactored, while a quarter of legacy applications were decommissioned. The university also reported an estimated 20% reduction in IT infrastructure costs.
