A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Trinity Mirror PLC is one of the UK’s largest newspaper and magazine publishers, with national and regional titles and more than 500 digital products. After nine years with a single provider, the company needed greater agility and data-center resilience—provisioning new infrastructure took weeks and they wanted near–real-time failover capabilities.
Trinity Mirror migrated key sites (including Mirror.co.uk) to Amazon Web Services because of AWS’s maturity, self-serve tools, multi–Availability Zone resilience and scalability, using EC2, RDS for MySQL, Elastic IPs, Elastic Load Balancing and Linux. Since the move they’ve had virtually no infrastructure outages and almost 100% homepage availability, lowered operational and capital costs for equivalent resilience, and rely on AWS Support while planning to migrate all branded sites to AWS.
