A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Ticketea, founded in Madrid in 2010, is a freemium event-management and ticketing platform that needed to win trust from both organizers and buyers while coping with dramatic, short-lived traffic spikes (up to 100x). With high upfront costs and the need for elasticity, the company required a flexible, scalable infrastructure to grow quickly and support new features without becoming bogged down in operations.
Ticketea built its platform on AWS—leveraging services such as Amazon Aurora, RDS, EC2, Kinesis, SQS, Lambda, DynamoDB, and Auto Scaling—enabling DevOps automation, better performance (95th‑percentile query times improved 300–600%), and reliable handling of peak loads. The result: rapid growth (more than 50% annually), 5.2 million tickets issued across 150 countries, support for over 100,000 events, a leading share of the Spanish market (about 65% of events), and strong adoption by major promoters.
