The International Air Transport Association (IATA) - Customer Case Study

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) represents 250 airlines and 84% of global air traffic and needed to boost the speed and flexibility of its business‑intelligence (BI) platform while avoiding large capital expenditures. Facing slow on‑premises processing and long provisioning times, IATA sought an on‑demand, pay‑as‑you‑go solution to meet fast‑moving industry needs.

IATA migrated its BI and intranet workloads to AWS—running SQL Server on Amazon EC2, storing historical data in Amazon S3, and deploying SharePoint 2013 in an Amazon VPC integrated with Active Directory. The move cut environment setup from days to minutes, enabled terabyte‑scale ingestion without prior capacity planning, eliminated extra hardware/software purchases, and improved performance (front‑end ~+100%, back‑end ~+40%) and network consistency for users and customers.
