A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Kasturi & Sons Ltd (KSL), publisher of The Hindu, formed KSL Digital Ventures to build consumer e‑commerce and mobile products but faced the challenge of launching applications quickly while keeping infrastructure and IT labor costs low. Building on‑premises hardware would be slow, capital‑intensive, and hard to scale, so the team needed a cloud approach that supported fast time‑to‑market and on‑demand scaling.
KSL chose AWS and, with AWS solutions architects and partner ActiveElement, built roofandfloor.com using services such as EC2 with Auto Scaling, Elastic Load Balancing, Route 53, CloudFront, S3, IAM, Redis, and MySQL RDS to target 99.99% availability and 10–100× traffic bursts. The result: about 30% average cost savings versus on‑premises, lower IT labor and capex, faster deployments, and greater agility to experiment and scale new products.
