TerrAvion Uses AWS to Help Farmers Improve Crop Yields Through High-Resolution Aerial Images

TerrAvion is an ag‑tech company that provides high‑resolution aerial imagery (OverView) to farmers across the US and Brazil. Because satellite images lack the plant‑level detail growers need, TerrAvion had to ingest and process multiple terabytes per aircraft each day and deliver fully processed images to customers overnight.

By running a cloud‑native pipeline on AWS — using Amazon EC2 for processing, Amazon S3 and S3 Glacier for scalable storage, and AWS Lambda for automation — TerrAvion ingests, stores, and serves massive daily datasets to customers and partners. The result: next‑day, plant‑level imagery and analytics that help farmers optimize irrigation and yields, detect equipment failures (avoiding hundreds of thousands in losses), enable partner applications, and free a small engineering team to build new features.
