T-Mobile Builds Jazz to Accelerate Companywide Adoption of AWS Serverless Computing

T‑Mobile, a nationwide wireless provider serving over 70 million customers, wanted to take advantage of AWS serverless benefits—faster scaling, lower operations overhead, and more developer focus—but faced the challenge of enabling company‑wide adoption without sacrificing security, compliance, cost controls, or creating service sprawl across many teams.

To solve this, T‑Mobile’s Cloud Center of Excellence built Jazz, an open‑source, serverless platform (using AWS Lambda, CloudFormation, Kinesis, and Amazon Elasticsearch Service) that automates operational‑readiness checklists and provides reusable, secure templates and feedback. The result: build-and-deploy steps are about 90% faster, fewer errors and inconsistencies, lower resource costs with pay‑as‑you‑go pricing, quicker innovation for customer-facing apps, and happier developers.
