A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Superior Group, a Buffalo-based staffing and consulting firm founded in 1957 that supports nearly 1,000 customers worldwide, was struggling with an aging on-premises SAP environment (ERP, PI, NetWeaver Gateway, and BusinessObjects). Frequent outages, poor performance, storage capacity limits, and slow disaster-recovery processes put time-sensitive operations like customer payroll at risk and constrained the company’s ability to grow.
Working with AWS partner Monocle Systems, Superior Group migrated its SAP systems to AWS in a 13-week project, running on EC2 (M4), EFS, S3/Glacier, ELB, and multi–Availability Zone architecture with replicated backups and logs. Post-migration CPU utilization fell from 56% to 14%, database request times improved from 478 ms to 94 ms, SAP dialog processes are three times faster, failovers now take minutes instead of days, backup retention increased to six months, and the company gained the scalability, security, and reliability to expand into India and Europe and focus on serving customers.
