A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Spotify is a digital music service giving users instant access to over 16 million licensed tracks across desktop and mobile, with free ad-supported and paid subscription options. Faced with the need to catalog yesterday’s hits, today’s releases and future tracks—adding more than 20,000 tracks a day—Spotify needed a storage and delivery approach that could scale rapidly without long lead times for upgrades.
Spotify built Python-based back-end systems on Amazon S3 for scalable storage and uses Amazon CloudFront to deliver the app and updates. Moving to AWS let the company provision capacity instantly instead of months, accelerate development and deployment cycles, and automatically scale infrastructure to meet unpredictable user demand while maintaining high data durability.
