Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Uses AWS to Improve Recovery Times by 67%

Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, a rural healthcare provider in southeast Iowa, needed to improve disaster recovery for its MEDITECH 6.x EHR system after its on-premises secondary site failed to meet recovery time goals and couldn’t be fully tested. The hospital turned to Amazon Web Services and its AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery service to create a more reliable cloud-based backup and recovery approach.

Amazon Web Services, working with Healthcare Triangle, implemented AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery on 61 servers in six weeks with no disruption to hospital services. The solution cut recovery times by 67% and helped the hospital verify stronger goals of a 4-hour RTO and 2-hour RPO, while also enabling regular non-disruptive testing, real-time visibility, and better protection against data loss during outages or ransomware attacks.
