SolarNow Builds an IoT Solution Using Eseye and AWS to Provide Customers in East Africa with Secure Access to Solar Energy

SolarNow is a for‑profit social business delivering quality solar products and flexible financing across East Africa (launched in Uganda in 2011, serving 35,000+ customers). As its customer base grew, SolarNow faced recurring device pain points—short battery life, inefficient panel usage and service interruptions—and needed a way to remotely monitor systems, optimize device longevity, speed up service response, and use usage data to inform credit decisions and prevent failures.

SolarNow partnered with Eseye and migrated to AWS to deploy Eseye’s AnyNet Secure SIM with AWS IoT Core and AWS IoT Device Defender, enabling secure over‑the‑air provisioning, real‑time device metrics, anomaly detection, and automated suspension of compromised SIMs. A pilot of 150 units in Uganda is already delivering actionable insights via Kinesis and ML for predictive maintenance, improving customer response times, protecting uptime, extending device life, and creating the data foundation to scale secure, connected solar solutions.
