Smartsheet provides a cloud-based work-collaboration and project-management platform used by customers in more than 40 countries. Rapid user growth made file upload and sharing one of its most storage-intensive features, so Smartsheet needed an inexpensive, scalable, secure and reliable content-storage solution—and customers also wanted easy access to outsourced, high-volume repetitive work.

Smartsheet integrated AWS (Amazon S3 for storage, CloudFront for global delivery and EC2 for load testing) within a week and added a point-and-click connection to Amazon Mechanical Turk called “Smartsourcing.” The move cut storage, transfer and acceleration costs by more than 75% versus other providers, enabled lower-priced plans, improved global performance and reliability, and gave customers on-demand access to affordable crowdsourced labor.
