Simple File Storage Gives Bambuser a Shortcut to the AWS Cloud

Bambuser, a Stockholm-based provider of real-time mobile live-video tools, needed to deliver extremely low-latency broadcasts to a growing global customer base. Its on-premises data center could not provide the regional presence required, and building an automated file-migration and shared-storage system from scratch would have taken months—threatening the company’s ability to serve videos on demand in multiple formats immediately after a broadcast.

Bambuser moved its video servers to AWS and added Amazon EFS alongside EC2, S3, CloudFront, RDS, and Elastic Beanstalk. A Dispatcher service writes original and transcoded video files to a shared EFS mount for immediate serving, then migrates archives to S3 with CloudFront delivering content to viewers. The EFS solution eliminated complex orchestration, saved roughly four months of development, preserved Bambuser’s low-latency advantage, and enabled faster international expansion.
