A Amazon Web Services Case Study
ShootProof is an online platform used by tens of thousands of professional photographers for galleries, print ordering, contracts and downloads. As the business grew, an aging single‑threaded PHP photo‑packaging workflow became a bottleneck—during peak periods customers sometimes waited up to an hour for downloads—and adding features like watermarking and resizing made the system even slower.
ShootProof re‑architected the workflow on AWS, implementing Amazon EFS as a centralized shared file system and parallelizing work across multiple EC2 workers that build packages on EFS and upload completed archives to S3. The change doubled package‑creation performance and delivered photo packages five times faster (now minutes instead of hours), reduced operational overhead so a small DevOps team can focus on features, and markedly improved customer experience.
