Shine Technologies is a Melbourne-based boutique IT consultancy that builds custom software for large enterprises in industries such as energy, telecoms, finance, and retail. After developing two Oracle-based billing applications (NBV and NBM) for the utilities sector, Shine found it prohibitively expensive for customers to run these mission-critical systems on-premises and needed a cloud provider that could host their large, highly tuned Oracle database with minimal disruption.

Shine migrated the NBV application to AWS, using Amazon RDS for Oracle as primary storage with EC2 instances in a VPC, Multi‑AZ deployments, snapshots, and Provisioned IOPS for high I/O performance. The move preserved the existing application stack and user experience while enabling easy scaling, automated backups, and failover—resulting in an estimated 50% cost savings over three years and a reduction in a key processing job from 96 hours to 24 hours; Shine plans to migrate NBM next.
