A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Shazam, the world's leading media-discovery app with more than 200 million users across 200+ countries, needed to prepare for a major spike in demand during its Super Bowl advertising campaign. To avoid lengthy hardware procurement and ensure reliable, global scale for tagging music, TV and ads, the company evaluated cloud providers and chose AWS for its reliability, support and comprehensive services.
In just eight weeks Shazam deployed an AWS-based solution using Amazon EC2 Cluster Compute instances with Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon DynamoDB (scaled to support over 500,000 writes/sec) and Amazon EMR for large-scale analysis. With help from AWS Enterprise Support and a dedicated TAM, Shazam spun up 200 EC2 instances at peak, processed millions of transactions during the event, and achieved the elastic capacity and operational simplicity required—making AWS its cloud provider of choice.
